Gold and Oil End Much Higher for the Week; Earnings Season Begins

Weekly Wrap Up

This week kicked off the earnings season for corporations and led the markets into a series of positive sessions. After Alcoa (AA: Charts, News) released upbeat results and Ben Bernnake assured investors that the Fed would remain accommodating with its stimulus, Wall Street reached new record highs.

Both the Dow and S&P closed at peak levels on Thursday.Stocks leveled off on Friday as the dollar bounced back from a large decline.
It was announced that consumer confidence dropped in July and jobless claims hit a 2-month high this week. Gold futures finished with the best weekly percent gain since 2011. More Market News
