Southwest Soars 110% in 2014; S&P 500 Up 11% This Year
The three main U.S. stock indices ended in the green today, with the Dow and S&P 500 closing at new record highs. With this new record close, the S&P 500 is now up 11% in 2014. The jump in the U.S. stock market today is partially due to a couple positive developments from around the world - Japan's Prime Minister announced that they would postpone a planned sales tax hike until 2017 and signs of an economic rebound came from Germany today. Southwest Airlines (LUV) currently holds the title of the best performer in the S&P 500, as its stock has soared 110% in 2014.
