DuPont helps keep Dow Jones up, while Economy drags other indices down
By: InvestorGuide Staff, dated July 27th, 2010The markets closed mixed today, as the Dow Jones managed to post a small gain of 12.26 points, while the Nasdaq slipped 8.18 points and the S&P 500 fell 1.17 points. The disappointing performance was blamed mostly on poor economic news: consumer confidence dropped to its lowest level since February, and while home prices managed to increase in May, analysts were doubtful that this gain was permanent. Some strong company earnings reports seem to have kept the markets from slipping even further. Crude oil for September delivery slipped nearly 2% falling to $77.50 a barrel, and gold for August delivery fell to a three-month low at $1,158 per ounce.
