Markets Drop as Federal Shutdown Seems Imminent (JNJ, GOOG)

By: , dated April 8th, 2011
Stocks finish the week with a small dip into the red as oil and other commodities soar upward. The big economic news, as it has been much of the week, is the increasing possibility the federal government will shutdown if a revised budget is not agreed upon by the House and Senate. As the markets closed today, no agreement has been made although small steps have been made in the right direction. The deadline is 12:00 AM EST, and even is a deal is put in place, the bill has to be passed through the House and Senate, which can take some time. Despite the impact on employees, any potential shutdown is seen as temporary and markets have reacted by more or less ignoring the possibility.
