Markets Mixed as Investors Wait for Payrolls Report (GS, GOOG)

More sour economic news continued to hurts stocks this week as investors eye tomorrow’s non-farm payrolls report as a strong indicator of where the recovery is headed. Jobless claims, although they fell, decreased less than anticipated, forecasting further doubt the non-farm payroll will have a positive impact. In corporate news, Goldman Sachs (GS) was subpoenaed for potentially illegal banking activities leading up to the financial crisis. Also, the FBI plans to investigate claims by Google (GOOG) that Gmail accounts were hacked via China.
