away from the market
A term that refers to a limit order that cannot be filled immediately because it is priced higher (for a sell order) or lower (for a buy order) than where the security is currently trading. Away from the market, orders are held until they are either filled or cancelled. Compare to market order. See Best Ask; Best Bid; National best bid and Offer.
