Black Friday
The day after Thanksgiving, the busiest shopping day of the year. Black Friday derives its name from the historic trend for U.S. retailers to operate at a loss (in the red) for the first eleven months of the year and begin to earn a profit (operate in the black) when the holiday shopping season begins on Black Friday. The stock market crash of September 24, 1869. The crash was triggered by panic selling when President grant released $4 million to drive down the price of gold after two financiers attempted to corner the market.
