consensus forecast
An assessment of the collective or average market expectation for the result of a particular piece of information about an economy. Fundamental forex traders typically compare the actual outcome for an economic data release with the consensus forecast. If the result turns out to be considerably better for the currency involved than forecast, they might then buy the currency, and vice versa if it turns out to be worse.
