A process used by creditors, landlords and employers in order to ascertain the credit worthiness and ability to pay of a prospective borrower, tenant, or employee. Credit information is obtained with a social security number from the consumer credit bureaus which includes payment history, credit balances, employment information, as well as an internally generated credit score.
