A price-weighted index made up of 30 Blue Chip stocks that are either within or closely aligned with the industrial sector. The Dow Jones Industrial average is one of the best known and closely followed of the broad-based indexes. Often referred to as The Dow. Compare to S&P 500; Wilshire 5000. See broader market.
