due diligence (DD)
A discovery and analysis of the risks associated with an investment. Conducting due diligence includes gaining an understanding of a company's financial condition, whether company insiders are buying or selling the stock they own in the company, current products and those that are under development, the company's competitors, and the factors that increase or decrease risk within the sector.
