ex pit transaction
A deal used to close out opposing interests in a futures contract that is negotiated outside of an exchange. In an ex pit transaction, a Cash commodity buyer might transfer to or receive from another counterparty a similar and offsetting amount of futures contracts at a mutually agreed upon price differential. also called exchange for physicals against actuals, or exchange of futures for cash.
