A spread Transaction sometimes used in the Commodity Futures markets where the long and short legs of the spread are taken in the same delivery month but in two different, although usually related, markets. An example of an intercommodity spread available to forex traders who can trade precious metals would be to buy a silver contract and sell a gold contract. Also called an intermarket spread.
