simulated trading
An Internet-based program offered by certain brokerage firms that allows an investor to practice placing buy and sell orders using real-time quotes, but without actual execution of the trades. Simulated trading can be beneficial as a training tool, but the profit and loss results can be misleading because the system cannot accurately incorporate the effect simulated trades would have had on a real-world trade.
