underlying futures contract
The standardized exchange traded agreement to take delivery of an asset at a forward date that acts as the basis for pricing an option to enter into that agreement. A forex Futures Option that conveys to the holder the Right to buy the underlying futures contract on a currency pair is a call, while the option that conveys the right to sell that futures contract is known as a put.
