When the country faces a struggling economic situation, there are some companies which you can count on do to well, such as bulk retail stores such as Costco (COST: Charts, News, Offers) and discount retailers such as Wal-Mart (WMT: Charts, News, Offers), while other stores which sell luxury goods are often sure to face a slowdown in business. Many other companies, however, are stuck in the middle, with their fate left in the hands of the consumers. For FedEx Corp and other shipping companies, it has been a rough year, as consumers have cut back spending in many areas, including shipping costs.
