Stock of the Day

The Health Care Plans Industry's Aetna Inc. (AET) was InvestorGuide.com's Stock of the Day on 10/29/2008.
Aetna's Quarterly Profit Drops 44%
Aetna Incorporated(AET: Charts, News, Offers), the third-largest U.S. medical benefits provider, reported a 44% drop in its third quarter earnings. As expected, Aetna had to cut its projections for its full year outlook, and even warned that these projection cuts may carry over into 2009. The insurance provider forecasts its earnings per share to be between $2.90 and $2.95 for the remainder of 2008. This comes as a bit of a surprise for investors after the company projected a third-quarter earnings of $4.00 per share in the previous two quarters. What were the causes of Aetna's unexpected third quarter collapse? Read more
