Zions Bancorp Acquires Amegy for $ 1.7 Billion
Salt Lake City, Utah based - Western U.S. bank chain Zions Bancorp, one of the nation's premier financial services companies, agreed to buy Amegy Bancorp Inc., the largest independent commercial bank in Houston, for $1.7 billion in cash and stock to expand its eight-state, 400-branch network into Texas. "The addition of a Texas presence will further enhance the current growth prospects of the company," stated a spokesman from Zions confidently. The merger is dependent on the support of Amegy's shareholders and banking regulators, and is expected to finalize during the fourth quarter of 2005. Read more
