Blockbuster Withdraws Circuit City Bid
Excerpt from the InvestorGuide.com Stock of the Day on 7/2/2008
For the last few months, investors and analysts have been talking about Blockbuster's unsolicited offer to purchase Circuit City (CC: Charts, News, Offers). It is a deal that seemed to have both positives and negatives for both companies. The offer was officially announced to the public back in April, but the two companies had already been talking for a couple months before that point. Blockbuster Acquisition Too Little Too Late?
Excerpt from the InvestorGuide.com Stock of the Day on 8/9/2007
Movie rental giant Blockbuster announced an acquisition it hopes will give it the necessary edge to woo would-be customers away from the competition. The Dallas-based chain confirmed that it purchased film download service Movielink in an effort to provide the same offerings as rival Netflix (NFLX: Charts, News, Offers). Netflix has boasted the exclusive ability to offer instant movie and television show downloads to a computer, but Blockbuster has stripped them of that designation with today's news. Will the added service give Blockbuster the final ingredient it needs to make the Total Access package irresistible to consumers or will it continue to dawdle behind Netflix. More >
