Qualcomm Loses Another Legal Battle to Broadcom

In this legal battle that has lasted over 2.5 years, Qualcomm Inc. and Broadcom Corp. (BRCM: Charts, News, Offers) have been arguing over some of Qualcomm's products that allegedly infringed Broadcom's patents. San Diego-based Qualcomm has a penchant for lawsuits - at least that what seems to be the case so far in 2007. The wireless communications company recently drew the ire of the US International Trade Commission over a possible patent infringement with Broadcom (BRCM: Charts, News, Offers), and is also involved in a battery of suits with Nokia (NOK: Charts, News, Offers). Despite the presence of these suits investors seemed to be giving Qualcomm the benefit of the doubt considering that shares were up 2.3% in afternoon trading. QUALCOMM files suit against Nokia, expands stock repurchase program to $2.5 billion

QUALCOMM, a leading developer of wireless technologies, announced Monday morning that its board had approved a new $2.5 billion stock buyback plan to replace an older plan that had about $1 billion remaining. QUALCOMM is also making news by filing a patent suit against cell phone maker, Nokia (NOK: Charts, News, Offers). In early trading Monday morning, QUALCOMM was up 10 cents to $44.90, while Nokia was down 14 cents to $17.02. More >
